British-made goods brought together on online marketplace

Made Closer offers products made in the UK
A new online marketplace for UK and European-manufactured products has launched on MadeCloser.com. The site brings together businesses selling items including British-made televisions and toasters, fashion, homeware and other products, aimed at ethical shoppers.
3 October 2013 – A Hampshire company is creating a blueprint for shopping for the future that doesn’t cost the earth as Made Closer, an ethical online market place, goes live.
Founder of Made Closer Ltd John Palaguta-Iles launched www.madecloser.co.uk to offer shoppers craving convenience the chance to buy ethically sourced products.
And businesses selling everything from British TVs to tea towels, are signing up each day to showcase their products without paying huge commissions for the privilege.
Cello Electronics, the UK’s only TV manufacturer, has given its endorsement to the company and has already sold its televisions to hungry shoppers wanting British made electronics.
Managing director of Cello Brian Palmer said: “As a dedicated UK manufacturer it is great to be working with other like-minded organisations who can see the value of goods made in this county.”
And toaster manufacturer Rowlett Rutland is also a founder merchant.
Now shopaholics who care about the planet and want to buck the ‘Primark effect’ need look no further as Made Closer offers a wealth of choice to conscientious shoppers who want to buy British and boost our economic fortunes.
Mr Palaguta-Iles said: “People can now vote with their wallets and make a choice. Most people are unaware of what is being made in this country and the pride that these companies have for their products.”
“It has been reported in the media for years that British manufacturing is on the decline, but there are thousands of British businesses out there, selling well-made goods.
“Made Closer provides a platform for companies to get their products out there, to sell and distribute. We have just touched the tip of the iceberg as our market force is growing each day.”
And a pleasant surprise awaits shoppers when they reach the checkout; delivery is free.
“By supporting British companies we are doing our part to help get the British economy back.”
Even Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson is looking at an alternative to the old business model, as he and sustainable business leader Jochen Zeitz have formed The B Team.
Sir Branson said: “Business has had many positive impacts on the world, but it needs to move away from a focus on immediate profit to one where it invests and operates for the long term good of people and the planet.”
